Chambers

It is with sadness that the Peterborough Diocesan Guild learned of the death of John Chambers. John was born on 27th June 1933 at Irthlingborough where his Father, Harry, was a very active ringer, his name being inscribed on many of the very fine Peal Boards at St Peter’s Church Irthlingborough and it was here that as a young lad John learnt to ring.
In 1949 the family moved to The Post Office in Stanwick, which was to become home for the next 60 plus years.
John became a stalwart ringer at St. Laurence Church and also Tower Correspondent for the Wellingborough Branch of the Diocesan Guild as well as being The Village Postmaster. John’s younger brother Sam became Tower Captain and John was still ringing at Stanwick up to six weeks before his untimely passing on 6th November 2022.
He will be very much missed at St. Laurence’s Church and within the Village Community. John’s Funeral was held on Tuesday November 22nd, where at John’s request, the bells were rung both coming in and going out from the Church.
