This peal was rung as a special Peace peal at the request of the Rector (Rev. F. Almond), who, at its close, kindly entertained the band to a sumptuous tea in the Rectory. Great credit is due to the ringer of the second for the splendid way in which she struck her bell throughout. This is believed to be the first peal on the bells since the year 1854.
(Footnote is incorrect: Felstead records peals in 1844, 1852 (not 1854), 1894 and 1896).

This peal was reported in local newspapers and it appears (without much detail) on a stone tablet in Maxey ringing chamber. The following references have been kindly provided by John Eisel as an addendum to his article in the Ringing World (2021.0270).
Lincoln, Rutland and Stamford Mercury, Friday 16th January 1852:
On New-year`s day the far-famed bells at Glinton were rang “right merrily,” a party of five from Maxey and one of Glinton having performed in good style 10,080 changes: the time occupied in ringing was 5 hours 58 minutes: and the peal, rounds, and ceasing the bells 6 hours, 10 minutes, each man not leaving his bell. The ringers were, Wm. Burbidge 1, Stephen Black 2, John Shelton 3, Henry Cutforth 4, Wm. Lambert 5, and Matthew Mowbray tenor. The peel [sic] was conducted by Mr. John Shelton.
Lincolnshire Chronicle, Friday 16th January 1852:
Feat of Ringing — The Maxey ringers on New Year`s-day, performed the extraordinary feat of ringing 10,080 changes of very intricate methods in the space of six hours and two minutes. The following were the ringers on the occasion: Wm. Burbidge, treble; Stephen Black, second; John Shelton (conductor), third; Henry Cutforth, fourth; William Lambert, fifth; and Matthew Mowbray, tenor.
Note that there is some discrepancy about how long the peal took, nor is it clear whether Doubles or Minor methods were rung.
