Not Friday 13th……

…but Saturday 14th May 2022 was a busy day for Guild events.

In the morning we held the regular 10-bell practice, this time at Kettering.  Not such a large turnout, and a few fuzzy moments, but it was still an opportunity to practice ropesight with a larger number of bells involved.

The 100 Club winning numbers were drawn at the end of the practice.  This month’s lucky winners are Rushden Tower, Joan Parker and Michael Fiander.  Congratulations to them, cheques will be in the post.

Then in the afternoon, the first two Second Saturday Sessions were held.

At Great Oakley, under the tutorage of John Beresford (Guild Steward) and Andy Bimson (Kettering Branch Steward), the “Basic Bell Maintenance” workshop took place where seven students learnt about The Keltek Trust, the installation of two new bells at Great Oakley and the necessary steps for a safe and efficient inspection of a belfry.

At Wadenhoe, with the guidance of James Thorpe (Peterborough Branch Ringing Master) and a group of helpers, six more students went “Beyond Plain Bob” and were able to make progress in learning and ringing new methods.

Further sessions are being planned; in June we will have an open 8-bell surprise practice at Thrapston prior to the Annual General Meeting in Peterborough.  Details of other courses will appear on the Guild website, PDG Facebook page and will be sent to tower correspondents.  If you are interested in learning more on any topic, contact Simon Dixon (This email address is being protected from spambots.
