Saturday saw a total of 18 young ringers from across the guild come to Daventry for an afternoon of ringing and pizza. This was the second event of it’s kind since the first was held at Badby in April (see the April 2023 edition of the newsletter https://pdg.org.uk/newsletters/newsletter_202304.pdf) and it’s safe to say our young ringers are really coming on! The first 2 hours of the afternoon were dedicated to ringing which included rounds and calls on 10 and plain hunt on 7. Many youngsters were also challenged to ring progressively heavier bells with some making it round to the 18cwt tenor. After the ringing had concluded we all retired to the church hall for some well deserved pizza, doughnuts, fizzy pop and of course a good chat!

Much thanks goes to Holy Cross church for allowing us use of the bells and church hall and also to the Daventry branch for subsidising the cost of the pizza using money raised from the raffles at branch meetings.

Building upon the success of this and the Badby event another young ringers practice is already in the pipeline for early January so keep your eyes peeled on the emails and Facebook!

I might not be eligible to call myself a young ringer, but I went along to Daventry this Saturday with a couple of boys I am teaching and so saw, first-hand, what an excellent idea this event was.  The sessions are aimed at ringers up to the age of 25 and gives them a chance to meet and ring with others of a similar age.  This time there were over 20 young people (most of whom were ringers), including some who came along for their first try.  It seems that Justin Baker had done all the preliminary organisation; Miles Baker did an excellent job on the day of running the ringing and getting everyone involved, and Theresa Baker completed the afternoon by supplying consumables – sweets during the ringing session then pizzas, crisps, drinks and doughnuts afterwards.

Everyone seemed to have a really good time with plenty of ringing and food to eat.  Well done to the Baker family and everyone else who was involved in making it a success (not least the parental taxis!)
